Short answer

Better AI marketing starts with better context. Give the system detailed information about your customer, offer, market, examples, constraints, brand voice and desired action. Then use human judgement to edit, challenge and improve the result.

AI is not the problem. Empty context is.

When brands say AI content feels lifeless, the problem is often not the model. It is the input. A prompt that says “write a social media post for my business” gives the system almost nothing useful to work with.

It does not know whether you sell to a busy Lagos founder, a parent in Abuja, a price-sensitive online shopper, a procurement manager or a customer who needs reassurance before sending money. Without that context, it reaches for the safest, most repeated language available.

AI becomes more useful when the business supplies the judgement, detail and customer reality.

The context checklist for better AI output

1. Customer context

Describe who the customer is, what they are trying to achieve, what they fear, what they have tried, what language they use and what makes them delay a decision.

2. Offer context

Explain the product or service, who it is for, who it is not for, pricing boundaries, delivery process, proof, common objections and the next step you want the customer to take.

3. Market context

Give the AI the location, buying environment, competitors, local expectations, infrastructure realities and cultural details that change how the message should sound in Nigeria.

4. Brand context

Share examples of your voice, words you use, words you avoid, your point of view, your promise and the experiences you want people to associate with the brand.

5. Task context

State the channel, format, audience stage, length, objective, evidence to use, claims to avoid and how success will be measured.

A practical prompt structure

Try this order: role → business context → customer → task → evidence → constraints → examples → desired action → review criteria. The order is not magic. The detail is what matters.

Ask the AI to identify missing information before drafting. Ask it to challenge weak assumptions. Ask for three options with different strategic angles. Ask it to flag claims that need proof. That is how you move from autocomplete to useful collaboration.

Where human judgement still matters

AI should not decide your positioning alone. It cannot own the consequences of a misleading claim, understand every local nuance, or know whether a message feels respectful to the people you want to serve. Use it to accelerate research, drafts, variations and analysis—then let a human decide what deserves to be published.
